First day of walk-load up Sherpa with minimal
provisions-already complaining about case of champagne-head up hill out of
Annot-thank God tourist office man assured us inn half way up mountain would be
open(close but no cigar).Adopt dog who stays with us for whole of journey. Walk
up fierce ascent-we could now number ourselves amongst those who had trod the
ultimate heights and invaded natures’s last stronghold against the advancing
spirit of man. Descend into village of Allons-fresh water than on to Angles-get
hopelessly lost in forest-finally find trail then onwards and upwards-Sherpa
has another bout of mountain lassitude cured by infusion of choc chip
biscuits-harrowing descent to Angles-we have walked 20km-dog has run 137Km!
Call for chopper to lift us out, Yaris arrives and drives us to Saint Andre Les
Alpes(dog is distraught). Goat cheese is now maturing nicely in Sherpa’s bag
and is now in semi-liquid state, Average dinner in fleabag hotel.
