Leave in a timely manner and encounter no fellow walkers(yet) on this
popular 18 Km trek-turns out all the smart people walk the opposite
direction which is all downhill!Walk through 670 m tunnel with aid of
torch-walk past dessicated bodies of French walkers wearing
thongs(footwear-le flip-flop) and carrying 1 can of coke. Forced to
ascend vertiginous ladders reminiscent of our recent ascent of the
Abruzzi ridge on K2!Long uphill section out of gorge in searing heat-run
out of water-finally make it to mountain retreat for ice cream and
drink. Taxi to La Palude-rehydrate with Leffe-simple peasant food for
dinner
