Base Camp to Camp 1
Sleepless night thanks to dog barking all night despite my
restrained treaties to desist-cooler day-following hearty breakfast of bread
and jam, load up my loyal Sherpa with the day’s provisions-more SVs and
SLs-thank God the guide said this was easy otherwise we would have mistaken it
for a backbreaking struggle-the problem with walking in the mountains is all
the ascending and descending. My Sherpa has been showing signs of surliness and
rebelliousness-will keep a loaded firearm under my pillow from now on. Cross
huge dam at Lindoso and are greeted by innkeeper who explains the finer points
of Portugese plumbing to us( hot water from left tap and cold from right etc).
Dinner at local inn-strange fruity wine from tap at bar.
